Call for New Members

Slate Roof reads manuscripts for new members in the Spring and Fall. Deadline for Spring consideration is April 1; for Fall consideration, Halloween.

Slate Roof was formed in January, 2004 to publish Pioneer Valley poets. Our members are involved in all aspects of the publishing process from concept to marketing. Slate Roof publishes limited-edition, art-quality chapbooks with letterpress covers that feature the work of area artists. Our current print run is 350 copies: 25 copies are given to the author and 50 retained by Slate Roof for promotional purposes. All profits return to the press; poets retain copyright. Our goal is to publish 2-3 chapbooks per year.

Membership requires a non-refundable $500 investment and a 3-year work commitment. Expect an average of 8-10 hours of work per month, including a monthly business meeting. Major decisions are made by consensus. Copies of both the Membership Agreement and the Author’s Contract are available and should be fully understood before considering membership.

If you are interested in joining Slate Roof, please submit three copies of a 28-page chapbook manuscript (28 pages of poems), plus a brief bio, so that we can determine how your work might fit into our plans for expansion. Please include in the bio any collective or group work you‘ve been involved in or special skills you have related to publishing.

All materials should be sent to:
